shoom’s closet: straight off the iphone pt.2

so…after reading my previous blog entry that took place early this morning during an episode of insomnia, i realized some of the pictures didn’t make the cut. oh well. but…that made me go back into the picture folder to see exactly what was omitted. as i’m scrolling through the excessive amounts of photographs  i got the most brilliant idea. i mean….aside from showcasing my sense of style, i figured since i swear by recycling clothes and want everyone to see what a wonderful resource it is, why not upload pictures of  items i’ve acquired through those means?  some are candid cameos and others were purposely taken to show the outfit. so..be prepared to see a lot of bathroom pics. it’s not my fault that’s where all the privacy and full length mirrors reside. in every picture at least one, if not all, of the clothes (including shoes and accessories) were purchased at one of the many thrift stores i’ve come across or taken from a friend who was getting rid of a few things.  some of the items (i.e. jean and camouflage vest) have been altered and modified by moi. again…some you’ve seen…some you haven’t. p.s. some of these pics were  NOT taken with the iphone but a lot of them were. and yikes! i don’t give the iphone camera enough credit. given the right conditions it can take a great picture. but it’s no secret…android cameras are shitting on the iphone”s camera. anyway…happy viewing.

i’m not religious: straight off the iphone

after my phone kept repeatedly preventing me from snapping ridiculously leering pictures of myself due to full memory, i decided to do a bit of spring (well…fall) cleaning around my cellular apple device. here are some random pics i found of some of the work i’ve done. some you’ve seen…some you’ve haven’t. have a scroll through…

just added to my closet: my new favorite pair of jeans.

i stopped by unique’s brooklyn location today; not necessarily to buy clothes but –i bought clothes. at least i didn’t od. lately my favorite jeans have been these pair of black jeans from wet seal (i love the fit but they’re cheap. so, i’m probably on my 3rd or 4th pair by now) but today i think i found my new favorite pair of jeans!! they fit really well (yes, better than the wet seals) and are distressed in all of the right places. with retail prices of ann taylor loft denim topping out between $50 and $70, i’m very happy with the price i managed to pay for them. 20120916-232509.jpg i also found this really cool pull-over sweatshirt — $1.99. it still has the tag attached so that means technically it’s new but based on the looks of the logo, i’d say it’s from the 90s. if i’m wrong then jerzees needs to update their graphics…unless of course, that’s the look they’re going for. i’m probably going to modify this a bit. weapon of choice — scissors. 20120916-235137.jpg

who said you can’t get fly with only $20?

about a month ago i went to canada and probably about 90% (if not all) of the clothes in my suitcase, including the dress i wore to the wedding, were from either a thrift or consignment store. here’s one of the outfits i put together for an evening on the water. when you add it all up…no lie…the whole outfit cost less than 20 bucks. i’ve been doing a horrible job with updating my site lately so these items never got posted. but here’s the outfit…

review: unique boutique donation center, upper west side

i’ve been sitting on this for a while. i’m not exactly sure why…but my excuse for everything is that everything happens for a reason. so…that’s my story and i’m sticking to it. so yeah… i guess now is the chosen time for me to debut my review for the unique boutique donation center, pleasantly located on the upper west side.  it’s weird because the name on the outside of the store says unique boutique donation center but when i asked the guy behind the counter for a business card he handed me the top of a receipt from the register with zach’s thrift corp printed on it ::scratches scalp::

anyway….this particular store was something i randomly stumbled upon.  it was late that evening…after 6 and i believe i just left work. i was feeling a little perplexed so i went for a walk and burned one down in central park on top of some rock i had to mountain climb (rats were involved but i’m not going to get in to that right now.)  in all my highness, the mission was a success and was able to meticulously navigate my way out of the park yet still  managed to be lost at the same time. somehow i ended up on columbus ave. and as i leisurely strolled through the concrete jungled blocks of the upper west side, it found me!  it’s like my body knew exactly when to stop and look up. lo and behold…there it was. even though i was excited about my new encounter it took me about 3-4 minutes to decide whether i wanted to go inside or not.  my heightened levels of indecisiveness brought on a strenuous internal battle but eventually the right decision was made — we were going in. i walked inside and was impressed at how spacious and organized the store was.  they had a little bit of everything for everyone including the trendy thrifter, the “on a budget” shopper and even the neighborhood (ho)arder. i took some pics around the store so you can get a visual of the space and an idea of the quality and types of items you can find here. unfortunately, i was broke that day so i didn’t have the opportunity to shop but i’ll be heading back there soon to scout for some items for my new apt. this store has a lot of potential 🙂

i’m not religous to be featured in @iamdlyric’s “moving on”

s/o to daynin aka d’lyric, kamau, erik,  michael excell, and even tranease (lol)  for an awesome weekend. i had so much fun helping create a visual for d’lyric’s single “moving on” from his debut project second go around.  i can’t wait until the production team is done with the final touches — the people are going to love it! to the the crew/production team…you guys are talented and creative as hell. keep it up!! and for those of you who don’t know d’lyric…artistically, he’s damn near the complete package.  he’s a poet, a songwriter, a rapper, a singer, and a producer amonst other things, and he does each of them quite well. head over to datpiff to listen/download second go round and then when your done follow him on twitter @iamdlyric. thanks 🙂 as soon as i get hold on the video i’ll put it up.
